Step One: METAL SURFACE PREPARATION |
| 1. |
All metal surfaces to be coated with PropSpeed must be sanded to an 80 Grit scratch pattern. To not damaged shafts and propellers, we recommend using a soft pad dual action (DA) sander.
|
| 2. |
All sanded surfaces must be cleaned with PropPrep wipes and immediately washed down with fresh water. We recommend that while one person is cleaning the metal surface with PropPrep wipes that another immediately follow behind and wash the metal surface with fresh water. Do not allow the PropPrep solution to dry on any metal surface.
|
| 3. |
After all metal surfaces are dry, wipe again with Denatured Alcohol or Acetone. |
 |
Step Two: APPLYING ETCH PRIMER AND PROPSPEED TOPCOAT |
| 4. |
Solids in the etch primer base will settle and attach to the bottom of the can. Therefore, you must scrape the bottom of the can of the etch primer base with a wood stir stick until nothing is attached. Then, stir the etch primer base until all material is uniformly blended (2 to 3 minutes).
|
| 5. |
Now, you are ready to add the etch primer base with the primer catalyst in a 4 to 1 ratio. Stir for 1 minute and let set for 2 minutes.
|
| 6. |
Apply one uniform coat of primer with a white foam roller or a brush. Don't not leave any drips or runs.
|
| 7. |
When the ecth primer is tack free (usually within 3 minutes at 80 degrees) you must apply PropSpeed topcoat. Tack free is described as when the primer can be touched with a finger tip but not leave a finger print.
|
| 8. |
Apply one full even coat of PropSpeed Topcoat with a new clean brush. All drips or runs must be brushed out. Due to it's fast drying characteristics, we recommend that while one person is applying the etch primer, that another person follow aprox. 3 minutes behind applying PropSpeed topcoat. . Let sit overnight and your vessel is ready to launch. |
